My take with Globe MyFi

Wi-Fi Mobile Hotspot is common to countries such as the USA, Canada and HongKong.  I can recall that one incident when Steve Job was demonstrating internet speed of two devices last year. Internet connection cannot be initialized due to overloading Mobile Wi-Fi networks created by the invited guests. The CEO advised all persons inside the Hall to switch off the device as it is interfering with their demos. It took them few minutes to work it out. They  identified over a hundred WiFi signals inside. It is overwhelming to know that this kind of technology is rampant yet very useful to mobile bloggers and online goers.

In the Philippines, Globe, Smart and Sun introduced mobile Wi-Fi last year. The product advertisements seems very interesting. Probably Filipinos, like me can be ignited to try this new device.

I bumped to Globe Tattoo site yesterday and felt that there is something new this day. Browsed over the Tattoo products and interestingly looked at the Globe Tattoo MyFi. I was keenly looking and effectively engage my curious mind with the product. To my research, it is a Rebranded Huawei E5832 Wireless Modem. It is rated to run with HSDPA, 3G/UMTS, EDGE and GPRS Network Band. Advertised to serve a maximum speed of 3.6 Mbps when on HSDPA. It can run with Operating System such as Windows 2000, XP, Vista, Windows 7 and Mac OS X 10.4 and up. There is also an interesting feature added, it can send and receive SMS over Web Interface.

Today, I was happy enough to hold one unit. To satisfy your interest, here are some pics of the device.

All in all, the unboxing experience is good. I was amazed with the new technology. Purchasing one is not that a hassle. Globe Centers anywhere in the Philippines do have enough stocks on this. Great disappoint is how limited Globe Personnel's  knowledge about this product. It was a horrible 4 hours of waiting before they get it to connect with the Internet. Globe Gaisano Davao's performance can be rated as 5/10. Not that good after-sales support and product demonstration and set up. You better ask them to set up the device before you leave and insist that they can show you if the device will work or else they will just give you the unit and WALLA. You end up carrying a non-working device especially when you are not experienced in setting- up a WiFI modem.
